"Intro to Welding" assignment for my Blacksmithing course. We were supposed to fabricate and weld a steel cube with the oxy-fuel process. I needed a small challenge to keep me interested.

This was inflated in the forge and tumbled. 10 gauge mild steel.

Ooh yes, it is!
I would like to make a really big one, but that would need a monster forge

I love this! It is so cool. How big is it? Not very baby friendly though :)

About 6" to a side. Definitely not for chewing on :)

A tumbler is a cylindrical drum that get rotated with lots of small steel pellets inside. Basically it acts like the steel version of a rock polisher, taking all the slag and sharp edges off one's pieces. It's also louder than a dozen grinders going at once! I didn't do any finishing on this piece post-tumble, so what you see is how it comes out.
